A Heart in Need of Repair

Our sanctuary. A place to worship, celebrate marriage, baptize our young and honor those who have gone before us. And a refuge we seek to restore ourselves in God's presence.

Housed in a beautiful, historic building, the sanctuary of University United Methodist Church is the heart of a vibrant community.

And while the sanctuary is the heart, it is we, the members, who are the soul. We who are inspired in these holy surroundings not only to love and help each other, but to extend our hands to those outside our walls: to mentor and tutor children in need, to feed and clothe the poor, to give of ourselves as Jesus would have us do.

And now the heart is in need of repair. Our beloved sanctuary, a century-old building, needs refurbishment and improvements to continue serving the needs of its members and those we help.

The time has come to:

  • Clean and repair the exterior stones, roof and gutters;
  • Repair, replace and repaint the woodwork;
  • Improve the day care facilities;
  • Re-grade and resurface the courtyard;
  • Improve access for the wheelchair bound;
  • Upgrade the air conditioning and heating systems;
  • Renew the stained glass windows;
  • Renovate the pulpit and choir areas;
  • Install fire alarm and sprinkler systems;
  • And the list goes on.

To make the repairs and improvements necessary to sustain our sanctuary into the second century and beyond, we will need to raise about $2.95 million.

Preserve, Prepare: The Next Century
A capital campaign to raise funds is now underway around the theme "Preserve, Prepare: The Next Century."

Your prayerfully considered commitment will be crucial to this effort to renew, update and make safe our base of operations for ministry to the outside world.

We will launch the campaign February 10 with a celebration meal and worship service at the UT Student Union ballroom. (No Sunday School or services will be held in the sanctuary that day.)

We ask that you make your commitment by March 9, the concluding day of the campaign. During that time, your input will be sought from various people to discuss ways to best preserve our heritage while carrying out our present efforts to do the Lord's work confidently into the future.
