United Methodist Women (UMW)

The United Methodist Women of UUMC have a lot of fun while learning about and acting upon key global issues, developing strong personal bonds, and supplementing their spiritual growth.

The group welcomes women of all ages who want to tap into a treasure trove of members with a wealth of life experience, intelligence, spirit, and compassion – women who take action. At UUMC and worldwide, UMW has proved to be an effective tool for studying and addressing social issues such as poverty and homelessness, racism and immigration, lack of health care for children, faltering education systems, environmental and economic injustice, and religious intolerance and terrorism.

The group presents programs for church members, joins in efforts to advocate for women, children, and youth, and supports the church’s global ministries. The work of UMW at UUMC begins with membership in one of the group’s circles, which meet monthly at the church. For more information, email the church office or call 512-478-9387.

Ruth Circle
meets year-round on the second Sunday of the month from 8:30 a.m-9:40 a.m in the church library. We generally read four books on religious and societal/political/cultural issues each year. We study the three Mission Studies. We sell fair trade coffee and have one to two social events per year. Many members have young children, and the group works to promote children’s ministry issues and events for our service projects. We would like to invite you to join the Circle.

Soiree Circle meets September through June, on the second Monday of the month from 7:00 p.m-9:00 p.m in the church library. Dinner is provided by members. Our meetings are a balance of service activities at the church and in the community, presentations of United Methodist Women (UMW) mission study topics, and discussions about books selected from the UMW Reading Program. We welcome new members!

Pilot/Monday Circle
meets September through May, on the second Wednesday of the month at 9:30 a.m in the church library. We study the three UMW mission topics and provide support for local mission projects and University UMW events.  Several of us have been members in the predecessor organization of UMW, Women’s Society of Christian Service, and enjoy sharing the history and evolving character of the organization with the other Circles at UUMC. If you are looking for a daytime Circle, come and join us.

Guilders Circle
meets September through May, on the third Monday of the month from 6:00 p.m-8:00 p.m in the Fellowship Hall. The meeting begins with dinner provided by members.  After a short business meeting, usually a member gives a presentation on one of the UMW mission study topics. Our Christmas activities include helping at Austin’s Capital Area Food Bank, providing funds for gifts for a needy family, and a celebration pot luck at a member’s house. We end the year in May with a salad pot luck, also at a member’s house. Come and join us, anytime!

Member At Large is another option if you are not sure which Circle to join or don’t have time to attend a Circle. You will be a member of one of the largest women’s organizations in the world, in service to people all over the world. Contact the church office for more details at 512-478-9387.
