Sunday School: Children & Youth

9:45 a.m to 10:45 a.m

Just as important as adult spiritual formation at UUMC is children’s spiritual formation. Children find a spiritual home here, and a place in the UUMC community, through Sunday School classes. Teams of dedicated volunteer teachers use age-appropriate, Bible-based materials to help children develop their Christian faith.

In addition to Bible lessons each Sunday, these students focus on all aspects of worship in the United Methodist Church. They are encouraged to participate in the ministries of the church with their prayers, their presence, their gifts and their service.

Classes:

Childcare for infants and one-year-olds, Room 106

Two-year-olds, Room 103
Children hear adults talk about God, Jesus, and the Bible and experience prayer and Bible stories on a simple basis. This is a 52-week program that is related to the Christian church year where children learn Bible stories and simple Christian faith concepts

Three-year-olds through kindergarten, Room 313

First, second & third grades, Room 309
Godly Play – the goal of Godly Play is to teach children the art of using the language of the Christian tradition to encounter God and find direction for their lives. It models how to wonder so children can enter into religious language. The educational time follows the pattern of worship.

Fourth & fifth grades, Room 318
Third through fifth grades use Hands On Bible Curriculum. Children are encouraged to discover the “why” behind what they are learning and to develop their emerging high-level thinking skills through active, hands-on, and participatory activities.

Middle school, Room 315

High school, Room 316
Students continue to study the Bible in order to enhance their own personal spiritual growth by emphasizing the relevance and the application of Christian values to their daily lives within the family, at church, in school and in the community.

Confirmation
Students who plan to be confirmed in May begin confirmation sessions in the spring with a UUMC mentor.

Teachers
UUMC staffs each Sunday School class for children and youth with a team of teachers. We are always on the lookout for additional team teachers and for substitutes.

Vacation Bible School
Every summer, UUMC offers a one-week Vacation Bible School for children. Adults and youth in the congregation work with clergy to create a lively series of activities that educate and entertain the children who participate.
