UUMC is delighted to welcome Rev. Dr. Pamela Lightsey to the pulpit for our annual Reconciling Ministries Network Sunday worship services, which celebrate our church’s anniversary as a reconciling congregation committed to public witness for the full inclusion of LGBTQ persons in our community. Lightsey is the only out Black queer lesbian ordained elder in the United Methodist Church. She currently serves as a board member of the Reconciling Ministries Network and as a clinical assistant professor at Boston University School of Theology. In her work, she proudly represents both the Black and LGBTQ communities as a minister, educator, and activist. Dr. Lightsey has been a leading advocate for LGBTQ rights consistently calling for an end to the United Methodist Church’s discriminatory policy related to ordination, church membership, and marriage rights.
