United Methodist WomenAll women at University UMC are invited to join United Methodist Women (UMW) – the world’s largest denominational faith organization for women with approximately 800,000 members. The global group’s goals include fostering spiritual growth, developing leaders and advocating for justice.

Our church’s UMW help support these goals on the grassroots level in Austin. Locally, we’ve advocated for fair immigration laws, adequate education funding and living wages for the working poor. We also help support an Austin elementary school and community center that serves low-income children and families, and we assist with our church ministries that feed and clothe people who are homeless.

We welcome you to be a part University UMW, where our women offer a treasure trove of life experience, intelligence, spirit and compassion.

You’re invited to visit and join any of our Circle groups:

Soirée Circle

This group is a good match for:
Women who enjoy a blend of service project and book studies
Meets:
September through June on the second Monday of the month, 7 to 9 pm in the Library
Description:
Meet up for dinner and conversation as Soiree Circle members come together for service projects and book studies. The group often takes on service projects around the church and community, such as volunteering at Zavala Elementary School. Soiree Circle members keep up with UMW Mission Studies and discuss books selected from the UMW Reading Program.

Pilot Circle

This group is a good match for:
Women who enjoy history and share an enthusiasm for the church’s future
Meets:
September through May on the second Wednesday of the month, 9:30 am in the Library
Description:
The Pilot/Monday Circle follows the UMW Mission Topics and provides support for local mission projects and church events. Several Circle members have been involved in UMW activities for decades, all the way back to the days when the group was known as the Women’s Society of Christian Service. Group members enjoy sharing their stories and they appreciate the ever-evolving character of the University UMW Circles.

Guilders Circle

The group is a good match for:
Women who enjoy conversation and social service projects with global and local outreach
Meets:
September through May on the third Monday of the month, 6 to 8 pm in the Fellowship Hall
Description:
The Guilders Circle begins its time together with a meal and a short business meeting. Usually, a Circle member gives a presentation on one of the UMW Mission Study topics. Advent and Christmas season activities include volunteering at Austin’s Capital Area Food Bank, providing funds for gifts for a needy family, and a celebration potluck at a member’s house. It’s a tradition to end the year in May with a salad potluck.

Not sure which group to join?

Member At Large is another option for women at UUMC. If you’re not sure which Circle to join or don’t have time to attend a Circle regularly, you’re welcome to drop in at any meeting that fits your schedule.
