Reproductive Justice
Should UUMC become a Reproductive Freedom congregation? Under a program of the Texas Freedom Network (TFN), participating congregations affirm the following three key principles:
We trust and respect women and people who can become pregnant.
We promise that people who attend our congregation will be free from stigma, shame, or judgment for their reproductive decisions, including abortion.
We believe access to comprehensive and affordable reproductive health services, including abortion, is a moral and social good.
As we take part in the discussion of what is means to become a Reproductive Freedom Congregation, we invite you to explore the resources below. Listen to statements UUMC has made regarding anti-abortion legislation in Texas. Read the positions of the wider United Methodist church. Dive deeper into the intersection between reproductive justice and theology. This is a complicated issue but an important one that deserves our discernment. We have been studying and considering this question for a couple of years now, and the Church Council is looking at bringing the above question to the congregation for a vote later in 2025.
