Miracle Sunday
Helps Form New Leaders for the UMC
The vision of the United Methodist Church is "to form disciples of Jesus Christ who, empowered by the Holy Spirit, love boldly, serve joyfully, and lead courageously in the community and the world."
In December 2024, when three United Methodists were killed in Munga Dosa, Nigeria, Bishop Ande Emmanuel and Rev. Eli Sule Yakku stepped forward to help comfort grieving families and steady their community. Their calm, courageous leadership kept the church united in a moment of deep pain. Both of these leaders were formed at the United Methodist Banyam Theological Seminary in Bambur, Nigeria, where rigorous theological study is paired with practical leadership training. Their preparation made a profound difference when their community needed them most.
The “Miracle Sunday” initiative responds to a significant global leadership gap, where far fewer clergy outside the U.S. have access to advanced theological education. By uniting in prayer, learning, and generous giving, the church aims to build sustainable, long-term support for theological schools abroad and ensure well-trained pastoral leaders for generations to come.
This week, we’re sharing a video from one such pastor, Rev. Princess Knuckles Jallah, a leader in Liberia whose ministry is transforming lives through evangelism in extraordinary circumstances.
