The visit itself was a deliberate sign of solidarity. While United Methodist churches across Europe have supported Ukraine since the beginning of the war in 2022—through humanitarian aid, prayer, and hosting refugees—this journey was about presence. Read more about the Bishops’ visit
As we’ve been discussing the past couple of weeks, United Methodists all around the world are taking part in the “Miracle Sunday” initiative, which will culminate in an offering on May 17 to add funds to "The Endowment for Theological Education in Africa, Europe, and the Philippines."
The goal of the initiative is to add $25 million to the Endowment, which will generate sufficient earnings to fund 500 scholarships for theological education per year, in perpetuity. Doing the math*, the endowment for one scholarship will need to be $50,000. Can UUMC raise enough for one scholarship? We’ll take up our special offering for Miracle Sunday on May 24, one week later than other congregations—let’s make $50,000 our collective goal!
To hear from a pastor who came to the ministry as a second career, here’s the testimony of Samuel Goia from Cluj, Romania. Scholarships can help people like him enter the ministry better equipped to handle the challenges of a turbulent world.
As a reminder, the vision of the United Methodist Church is "to form disciples of Jesus Christ who, empowered by the Holy Spirit, love boldly, serve joyfully, and lead courageously in the community and the world." Please look for more information on Miracle Sunday in the next few weeks.
*The math: $25 million / 500 = $50,000. Invested wisely, that amount of the permanent endowment should be able togenerate around $2,000 per year, enough to support one theology student.
