| Summer ShareholdersSundays in May | Courtyard
Every Sunday in May, the youth will be fundraising in the courtyard. They’ll use the money for a service week in Bentonville, Arkasas, learning about economic justice! They’re asking people to buy shares in the youth program at $10 a piece before or after worship for the next three weeks. The youth will cook and host a special dinner to thank all our shareholders and share photos of their week later in the summer! |

Service of Worship Sunday @ 11 amScripture: Revelation 7:9-17
Join us for worship as we welcome Rev. Dr. Jeehei Park to the pulpit. Dr. Park’s sermon is “Not Your (Stereo)Typical Lamb” and the sermon text is Revelation 7:9-17. We will also be recognizing our graduating college students in worship and the Sanctuary choir will be singing “We Shall Walk Through the Valley” by Undine Smith Moore. Pastor Teresa will also share briefly about what it means to be a Reproductive Freedom Congregation. This is a program of Texas Freedom Network and following a variety of learning opportunities the Church Council is looking to a date later in the summer to hold a church wide vote to affiliate as a Reproductive Freedom Congregation. Pastor Teresa’s sharing will provide an update and you can find more information below. |

Becoming a Reproductive Freedom Congregation
Should UUMC become a Reproductive Freedom congregation? Under a program of the Texas Freedom Network (TFN), participating congregations affirm the following three key principles: We trust and respect women and people who can become pregnant. We promise that people who attend our congregation will be free from stigma, shame, or judgment for their reproductive decisions, including abortion. We believe access to comprehensive and affordable reproductive health services, including abortion, is a moral and social good.
TFN is an Austin-based grassroots organization of religious and community leaders who support religious freedom, individual liberties and public education. We have been studying and considering this question for a couple of years now, and the Church Council is looking at bringing the above question to the congregation for a vote later this year.
You can find more information about this program on TFN’s website and on our website. |

Wesley Nurse Update
I had a visit recently from Catalina Schultze-Kraft, MHM’s Director of Regional Nursing and Wellness Programs (Wesley Nurse Sites). I mentioned Open Door Ministry and the support that I have received from Pastor Earl and the lead volunteers Armin Gutmer and David Woodruff. The picture below is of the table set-up from last weekend. Armin was kind enough to create the signs above me in English and Spanish, and he strung them in place. The signs say: |
|
Wesley Nurse Station: Get help with medical referrals and community resources. Blood pressure screening available at no cost
Estación de la Enfermera Wesley: Ayuda con referencias médicas y recursos comunitarios. Examen de presión arterial gratuito. |
| We might call where my table is the “Wesley Nurse Resource Corner”. I am hoping that MHM will provide me with a banner or a sign that can be displayed for Open Door guests to see. Things move slowly; fingers crossed! |

I have connected with University Presbyterian Church’s UPLift Ministry and will be providing WN services most Tuesday mornings. My coworker and I participated in St. Austin’s Outreach to Persons in Need ministry, and I plan to return. They assist with rent or utility bills and are a great resource. There are a couple of other places and ministries keeping me occupied, including Baptist Community Center Mission on most Fridays.
Finally, I’ve been working with AV and Megan to have a guest speaker from the Kind Clinic come in the Fall semester. He will be able to present on: an overview of the Kind Clinic Services (HIV/STI testing, treatment, prevention, gender affirming care, intersex care), educate the audience on ways they can advocate for their care, emphasize the importance of receiving preventative healthcare screenings and not to delay them due to fear or discomfort, mention the special training that Providers at the Kind Clinic have received to be able to work with patients who are trans and why the experience is different than going to a primary care provider, and birth control options and their interactions with hormones. We haven’t decided on a date or the details yet, so this is still pending.
More to come! – Erika Castillo Wesley Nurse |

This year our lenten offering went to to Austin Region Justice for Our Neighbors and American Gateways. Thanks to your generous donations, we were able to raise $3,040 to help further their good work. These funds will be divided equally between the two organizations so they can continue to support and welcome immigrants |
