“We Are Becoming …”
Stewardship campaign sets goal for growing UUMC
During our “We Are Becoming …” stewardship campaign this month, we’ve heard from UUMC members that the church is becoming an essential part of their lives. Pastors Teresa and Earl shared how we are becoming more generous disciples and better neighbors. Through Jillian’s children’s lessons, our kids are becoming better stewards. And through some goofy cartoon characters, we are becoming less fearful of an unwritten future.
This Sunday, we have a chance to begin to complete the sentence “We are becoming …” as we make our commitments for giving in 2027.
Pledge cards may be returned during Sunday’s worship service or submitted to the church office. You can also communicate your plans to finance director Cindy Reeves at finance@uumc.org.
The UUMC Finance Committee set a stewardship goal of $875,000 in commitments for 2027, which would be an increase of about 7% from our current-year pledged giving of $816,929 from 156 individuals and families. I’m happy to report that we’ve already received $144,448 in commitments after last Sunday, and I’m confident that together we will meet our goal.
Commitments made via pledge cards this month are critically important to our ability to prepare a budget and plan our spending for next year. Stewardship commitments make up 56% of the church’s budget, with the remainder coming from income from the church-owned parking lot across the street, an annual disbursement from the UUMC Foundation and other, non-pledged gifts through the offering plate and elsewhere. UUMC receives no income from the university, the government or the larger church.
A shortfall in financial commitments this fall will result in cuts to beloved programs or missions next year. An increase in giving will allow the church to become more welcoming, helping, uplifting, caring, transforming, engaging …
Please prayerfully consider your commitment and how you want UUMC to complete the sentence, “We are becoming …”
