Dear friends and members of University UMC:
This May, I’m finding myself surrounded by people who are celebrating various graduations. Some of my friends from college have children graduating from high school or college. The other day, I saw children lining up outside for a preschool graduation—the best! Here at UUMC, we’ll recognize graduating seniors this weekend. And last night I celebrated with my sister as she received her Master of Education in Special Education degree. Indeed, it is graduation season!
At my sister’s graduation ceremony, we were reminded of the great number of people who surround each graduate. Parents and grandparents who nurtured and encouraged. Partners and other family members who sacrificed and took on additional responsibilities in the home. Friends and co-workers who cheered them on in their educational journey. Teachers who guided and mentored. It takes a village! Through each of life’s transitions, may we find ourselves surrounded by people who accompany us on our journeys. And may we be the ones who surround others on their journeys.
