Hospitality Team

Thank you for your interest in being a part of the UUMC hospitality team! Our greeters and ushers are an integral part of the worship experience for our community, especially our visitors, on Sunday mornings. It all starts when you click “choose appointment” below!

Each Sunday members of our team serve in several roles. A brief guide is available below. For more detailed information, you can read our list of Duties and Guidelines.

For those who have been longtime sanctuary volunteers, you may see more openings than before. The goal is to have two greeters at each entrance and two people on each side passing the offering plates. This is a total of eight roles, which can be covered by four people. Need more clarification? Check out our FAQs below.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • You wouldn’t believe how many people have been asking about this! Both roles are vital to our mission to help everyone feel welcome. But there are some differences:

A greeter shows up before worship (or Sunday School) to smile and be welcoming to those that enter our building. Before worship services, greeters will help with distributing worship bulletins. Ideally, we'll have two greeters at each entrance.

An usher needs to be present during the worship service. Most Sundays their primary role is to pass offering plates. On Communion Sundays, ushers will also be asked to help guide people.

As ambassadors for UUMC, ushers and greeters should be alert for opportunities to welcome any visitors nearby.

  • Yes, absolutely! In fact, we count on that happening most Sundays. Feel free to sign up for more than one spot. Typically a sanctuary greeter will be able to serve as an usher, so that person should put their name in both places. A parking lot greeter might also wish to serve as an usher from time to time.

  • Sure you can. The more helpers, the merrier!
