| Service of Worship Sunday @ 11 amScripture: John 15:12-17
All Saints Sunday is a meaningful service as we light candles for each member at University UMC who has died during the last year. This All Saints, The UUMC Choir and friends present "Eternal Light: A Requiem" by Howard Goodall. Alongside the traditional Latin & Greek text of the Mass for the dead, Goodall places hopeful and comforting English poetry from the last 500 years. This creates a beautiful juxtaposition of ancient sacred texts- "Kyrie Eleison, Christe Eleison" (Lord have mercy, Christ have mercy) with English reassurances- "Close now thine eyes and rest secure, thy soul is safe enough, thy body sure." Many of the English sections are brought to us as solos by our congregations' own: Cami Everitt, Marlon Johnson, Annisha Mackenzie, Andres Ojeda, Caitlyn Sani, George Sani, and Jeremy Selvidge. The accompaniment of this work will include local Austin harpist Shana Norton, and a chamber string ensemble. Because of the length of the requiem, we will be celebrating Holy Communion on Sunday, November 9. |

“I am listening to a deeper way. Suddenly all my ancestors are behind me. Be still, they say. Watch and listen. You are the result of the love of thousands.” – Linda Hogan
“My culture does not honor the ancestors as a quaint spirituality of the past, but as a living source of strength for the present.” – Steven Charleston |

It’s Not Too Late
Thank you to everyone who has already made your 2026 financial commitment to UUMC. After Commitment to Giving Sunday last week, we have received 110 pledge cards totaling $619,773 toward our $850,000 “Dare to Dream” goal. Fifteen of those are first-time pledgers!
Pledges are still being accepted, appreciated and relied upon before we set our budget for 2026. Pledge cards can be submitted in the offering plate or directly to the office in person or by mail. You can also communicate your 2026 financial commitment to me at finance@uumc.org or 512-478-9387 x224. I have also just emailed updated 2025 giving statements. Please look these over for accuracy and reach out if you have any questions. If you didn’t receive one via email, please let me know so I can update your email address on file or send one by mail. It was so great seeing you all at our Fall Festival and stewardship luncheon last Sunday! Thanks for daring to dream with us! Thank you always for your generosity.
Cindy Reeves, finance director |
