Service of Worship Sunday @ 11 amScripture: Luke 10:25-37University UMC is thrilled to welcome Texas State Representative James Talarico as the guest preacher this Sunday, June 29. His sermon is entitled “On Earth as it is in Heaven: A Christian Commitment to Democracy” and the scripture reading is Luke 10:25-37, the Parable of the Good Samaritan. The Tenor/Bass Choir is singing “Nearer My God to Thee”, (Music: Lowell Mason, Lyrics: Sarah F. Adams, Arr. & Additional Lyrics: James L. Stevens). At the end of the service, Lay Leader Jeremy Selvidge and Church Council Chair Sandy White will share in celebrating the return of our appointed clergy Rev. Earl Kim and Rev. Teresa Welborn. Our closing hymn is “This is My Song” and sings, “Oh, hear my song, O God of all the nations, A song of peace for their land and for mine.” May this indeed be our song and our prayer. |
|
“You know what’s interesting? Not once in the entire bible does Jesus ask us to worship Him. All He asks is that we follow Him. Love like He loved. Love the outcast, welcome the stranger, feed the hungry, heal the sick, free the oppressed.” – Representative James Talarico |

Open Door/Fig Leaf: Beat The Heat Drive
Summer is upon us, and the temperatures are rising. As the heat intensifies, our unhoused neighbors are especially vulnerable. Open Door and Fig Leaf Ministries are launching a "Beat the Heat Drive" to collect simple items that can bring comfort during these sweltering days. This season, we’re focusing on two key items: cotton bandanas and wet wipes.
Here’s how you can help (now through the end of July): Shop our Amazon Registry. Purchase items and have them sent directly to us. Bring a Donation. Pick up some bandanas and/or wet wipes during your next shopping trip and drop them off in the Open Door and Fig Leaf bins at church.
Together, we can offer a bit of relief and care to our neighbors in need this summer. Thank you for your generosity and compassion! |

Becoming a Reproductive Freedom Congregation
Should UUMC become a Reproductive Freedom congregation? Under a program of the Texas Freedom Network (TFN), participating congregations affirm the following three key principles: We trust and respect women and people who can become pregnant. We promise that people who attend our congregation will be free from stigma, shame, or judgment for their reproductive decisions, including abortion. We believe access to comprehensive and affordable reproductive health services, including abortion, is a moral and social good.
TFN is an Austin-based grassroots organization of religious and community leaders who support religious freedom, individual liberties and public education. We have been studying and considering this question for a couple of years now, and the Church Council is looking at bringing the above question to the congregation for a vote later this year.
You can find more information about this program on TFN’s website and on our website. |
